A Timeline of 2024 CrossFit Games Event 1: 'Lake Day'

On August 8th at 7 a.m. CT, the first event of the 2024 CrossFit Games kicked off starting with a 3.5 mile run around Marine Creek Lake followed by a 800m swim across the lake to the other side.

At approximately 7:38 a.m. during the final 250 feet of the swim portion of Event 1, Lazar Ðukić went under the water and did not come back up.

This article is an effort to document and reconstruct to the best of my ability, the events that occurred on August 8, 2024 at Marine Creek Lake.

  • The 2025 CrossFit Games Season: Rumor Round-Up and a Theory for What’s Next

As we approach the end of the year, rumors have been circulating about what the 2025 CrossFit Games season will hold, both for everyday athletes and elites.

  • The Post-CrossFit Games Top 100 Worldwide Ranking – Gabriela Migała and Jeff Adler on Top

For the last two seasons, the CrossFit Games team has released a Worldwide Ranking (WWR) based on its own scoring system.

The last update to the WWR was on June 5, 2024, shortly after the conclusion of the Semifinals.

Along with the last top 100 women and men that the CrossFit Games team released in the early summer, they also released a points matrix for the Semifinals and for the CrossFit Games.

With the withdrawals of Games athletes after Lazar Đukić’s death in Fort Worth, the rumors of a new season structure for 2025, and much of the community waiting on the results of the third-party investigation, there is every reason under the sun to explain why CrossFit hasn’t released an updated worldwide ranking since June.

That said, we went ahead and updated it for them — unofficially, of course. Here are the top 15 women as it currently stands.

    Rookies.

They’re a new name to cheer on. Underestimated talent that, beyond a few days at Semifinals or rumblings from some local or regional competitions, the world hasn’t yet had the chance to watch perform.

Some years, we can anticipate which of these newcomers will make a splash. Other times, it’s not so clear-cut.
